About Health Promotion, Prevention and Protection

Women’s active participation and involvement in sustainable development are intricately linked to good health, enhanced self-confidence and improved economic conditions. Achieving this state is problematic as they bear the brunt of the country’s development challenges, many of which are driven and underpinned by gender discrimination born from harmful social and cultural norms, and exacerbated by high rates of poverty and illiteracy among women.
Acting in tandem with our Health Care and Health Delivery interventions, projects under this area seek to improve the disadvantaged situation of women in The Gambia by empowering them economically, culturally, and morally. We place emphasis on strengthening their understanding of sexual and reproductive health and basic human and health rights, as well as providing them with life skills for financial independence.
We consider the involvement of men and youth vital in advancing women and girls’ empowerment and supporting their participation a partners in development.
