Your Medical Needs are our Concern; offering you Quality Medical Care is our Business

About us

We are a national non-governmental and non-profit organization based in The Gambia. Our vision is to improve the quality of health care service in The Gambia and see a Gambia in which vulnerable women and girls enjoy their rights without prejudice or discrimination, and where men are empowered to help these women and girls reach their fullest potential and thrive while contributing to the development of their families, communities and country through health, economic, social, and political empowerment.

Our focus is on three major interrelated areas: health, economic and social empowerment, and environmental issues, addressed through different projects under our Social and Economic Empowerment Program.

Our program

Our Social and Economic Empowerment Program aims to complement the government’s health promotion and development efforts and contributes to the attainment of related sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Our Program empowers communities to take charge of their health and economic well-being, with huge emphasis on their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Our approach is based on the principle that sound health is closely linked with different social, cultural, environmental and economic factors that affect the health and well-being of women and girls, thus bridging gaps and creating linkages between these issues.

BAFROW Medical Centre

We operate clinics under our Health Project through BAFROW Medical Centre and our Well Woman’s Family Health Clinics.

BAFROW Medical Centre is a national, self-sustained clinical institution, accredited by the West African College of Physicians to train junior and senior residents in Family Medicine.

Our medical service contributes to the reduction of illnesses and deaths in The Gambia through the provision of integrated health preventive and clinical care, maternal and child health care, and nutritional orientation to all. Our work responds to both the national health policy goals and the United Nation’s health related Sustainable Development Goals.

BAFROW's High Protein Mix

‘Dundal Njobot’/ ‘Dimbaayaa Balundoo’

A fundamental aspect of our work in health promotion is to encourage good nutrition as well as prevent and manage malnutrition. This is why we have trained the BAFROW Women’s Groups to manufacture an affordable home-made cereal at our Multi-purpose Skills Training Centre in Mandinaba.

The cereal, locally known as ‘Dundal Njoboot’ or ‘Dimbaayaa Balundoo’, is high in protein and rich in nutrients and a wide range of vitamins. It has been analysed and certified by an expert nutritionist and has proven very effective in combating malnutrition.
