Functional Literacy

Project beneficiaries are enrolled in our cross-cutting functional literacy program and educated so that they can adopt positive behaviours relating to sexual and reproductive health (SRH). They are provided with a wide range of information followed by dialogue on a variety of related issues including but not limited to the need for regular health checkups, proper hygiene and sanitation practices, the importance of girls’ education up to completion, good mother and child nutrition, protection of girls and women from harmful traditional practices and gender based violence, and civil responsibilities.
They receive training for effective interpersonal communication, advocacy and lobbying as well as in numeracy and basic business management. Beneficiaries are also introduced to climate change to support government’s community adaptation efforts.
The project encourages beneficiaries to share their knowledge and skills with non-beneficiary family members and friends in order to enabled male groups and the larger communities to also benefit, thereby helping communities to move forward together strategically in advancing women’s SRHR and reducing gender inequalities.
