BAFROW Model Centre Community Market Outlet
An incentive for increased agricultural and horticultural produce
To support women’s economic empowerment, BAFROW assisted the women of Mandinaba Village, by piloting the establishment of a small market complex that provides a clean, safe, and conducive outlet for their commodities and products. The complex was constructed in direct response to a felt need expressed by the community.
Market Facilities
The complex comprises two main structures:
1. Fish, meat and vegetable market: A concrete-floored, corrugated iron-roof facility with display slabs and clean running water to promote good hygiene
2. Double-story building – Top floor: A mini-retail shop selling soap, detergents, cosmetics, processed and packaged foods; Ground floor: A wholesale store offering processed foods, agricultural produce and horticultural products
Strategic Location
©BAFROW
The market is situated along the highway, directly in front of the village and near a major police post where vendors traditionally gather to sell produce to passengers at the checkpoint. Its location enhances visibility, accessibility and customer flow.
Community Management
The complex is managed by the villagers themselves and benefits both local retailers and traders from Mandinaba and neighbouring villages. Such community-led management ensures sustainability, ownership and equitable access.
