BAFROW's High Protein Mix

BAFROW’s home-made cereal, locally known as Dundal Njoboot or Dimbaayaa Balundoo (a family’s sustenance), is high in protein and rich in nutrients and a wide range of vitamins.

Pregnant women with poor nutrition run a higher risk of experiencing difficult pregnancies and delivering unhealthy babies. Often, the absence of proper nutrition is due to economic reasons but mostly it is the result of unawareness or cultural beliefs regarding foods and eating patterns.

A fundamental aspect of our community work is to promote good nutrition to help counter ill-health while clinically managing malnutrition in pregnant and lactating women, and children under the age of 5 years.

Through continual sensitization, BAFROW Family Clinics dispel myths surrounding certain foods which are otherwise very good for the body while equipping community women with information on how to prepare balanced diet meals using available local food items.

One of our most impactful initiatives towards improving nutritional health in communities is the production of an affordable, home-made cereal mix by BAFROW Women’s Groups at our Multi-purpose Skills Training and Empowerment Centre in Mandinaba Village.

These women, beneficiaries of one or more of our programs, already possess strong production, business management and distribution skills, enabling them to effectively manufacture and market the cereal mix.

The cereal, prepared as porridge, has been analysed and certified by an expert nutritionist and is proven to be highly effective in preventing and managing malnutrition.
