LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY

Our surgical procedures include the use of laparoscopic technique to reduce pain, scarring and recovery time.

Laparoscopy represents a revolutionary advancement in minimally invasive surgery within The Gambia. This technique enables abdominal operations through small incisions, utilizing miniaturized instruments and a laparoscope—a flexible tube equipped with a high‑resolution camera and light source.

Real‑time imaging allows our surgeons to visualize abdominal and pelvic organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, hepatobiliary system (liver, pancreas, gall bladder) and reproductive structures.

Clinical applications include the management of appendicitis, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian and cervical cysts, gynaecological cancers, and repair of uterine, tubal, and ovarian injuries. It also facilitates tissue sampling for biopsy.

Laparoscopic surgery is associated with reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays and expedited recovery, with many patients discharged after brief observation.
