Dr. Njie’s relationship with BAFROW Medical Centre spanned many years and reflected his unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of Gambians. He first served with BAFROW from 1998 to 2000, during which time he quickly established himself as a dedicated professional, trusted colleague and inspiring leader.
Thereafter, he was called to serve the nation in several key leadership positions within the health sector and public service. Throughout his distinguished career, he served with honour as a soldier, a medical doctor, Director of Health Services, Chief Medical Director of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) and Minister of Health. In every role entrusted to him, Dr. Njie demonstrated exceptional professionalism, integrity, vision and an unwavering commitment to national development and the welfare of the Gambian people.
In 2015, Dr. Njie returned to the BAFROW family, where he once again became a pillar of our medical institution. From that time onward, he provided invaluable leadership, guidance and mentorship, helping to strengthen our healthcare service and shape the lives and careers of many who had the privilege of working alongside him.
To BAFROW Medical Centre, Dr. Njie was more than a colleague and advisor; he was a father figure. His presence brought reassurance during difficult times, clarity during moments of uncertainty, and confidence when important decisions had to be made. He possessed a rare ability to speak truth with kindness, to lead with humility, and to inspire without seeking recognition.
He nurtured talent, encouraged excellence and mentored countless staff members and young professionals. Many within the BAFROW family grew professionally and personally because of his guidance, encouragement and belief in their potential. His influence extended far beyond the workplace and into the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
His leadership was matched by his warmth and generosity. He had a unique gift for bringing people together, fostering unity and strengthening bonds of friendship and family. He celebrated the successes of others, offered support in times of hardship, and was always willing to share his wisdom, experience and time.
Dr. Njie lived his faith through action. His compassion for others, commitment to service, humility and willingness to forgive reflected values deeply rooted in his belief in Almighty Allah. He approached life’s challenges with dignity and resilience, remaining steadfast in his purpose and generous in spirit.
Today, we grieve the loss of a remarkable man whose contributions to BAFROW Medical Centre, the health sector and the nation will not be forgotten. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. Yet, his legacy lives on in the institutions he helped strengthen, the lives he touched and the many people he inspired.
As we bid farewell to Dr. Malick Njie, we give thanks for a life well lived; a life dedicated to service, leadership, mentorship and compassion. He ran his race with honour and distinction, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to guide future generations.
On behalf of his entire family at BAFROW Medical Centre, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, family, friends, colleagues and all those whose lives he touched and enriched.
May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, widen and illuminate his grave and grant him the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus.
