Immunization provides protection against a wide range of diseases, including measles, rubella, polio, rotavirus, tetanus, diphtheria, human papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis B, among others. This year’s celebration is especially significant as it marks the 50th anniversary of the World Health Organization’s Extended Program on Immunization (EPI).

We are proud to join partners in The Gambia in commemorating this milestone by reinforcing awareness activities at our health facilities. These efforts highlight the importance of vaccination for all those at risk of vaccine-preventable diseases. The week also provides an opportunity to advocate with decision-makers for stronger political commitment and the availability of essential vaccines.

Through our immunization program, we continue to:

• Provide routine vaccinations to pregnant women, infants and children
• Offer information and counselling on essential vaccines to expecting parents
• Promote the benefits of immunization for healthier communities
